ERLING HAALAND: WHERE DOES HIS DESTINY LIE?

Where is Erling Haaland headed to?

"I just want to play football." These were the words of Erling Haaland after his team's 5-1 win against Bundesliga rivals Freiburg SC. Haaland, making a return after a long injury lay up was under intense pressure both on and off the pitch. Speaking to Norwegian media house Viaplay after the match, Haaland said, "The last six months I have chosen not to say anything out of respect for Dortmund, but now the club has started to press me into making a decision.

"All I want to do is play football. But they press me about my future, so that means I have to make a decision soon."

Pressed on whether that means he could announce his next destination soon, Haaland added: "That is what they [Dortmund] want. It means things will happen now. They have started to put a lot of pressure on me, and I have to accept that ... so now is the time to get things started."

Haaland says he feels "pressured".

REAL MADRID

Are you surprised? Well don't be. Florentino Perez has been known to make big money moves over the years and Haaland can be another one of them come May, 2022. According to popular football journalist Fabrizio Romano, nothing is confirmed with Real Madrid as of yet, despite the several leaks coming out on social media. At Real Madrid, Haaland would get the stardom of a Galactico, the chance to play with some of the best in the world, and most importantly a shot at the coveted UEFA Champions League. Real Madrid are the 13 time champions of the European club showpiece event and Haaland will not find a better club than Madrid to fulfil his destiny. The only drawback? He will have to share the spotlight with fellow superstar Kylian Mbappe, who looks almost set to join Madrid next season. Will Mbappe's arrival play a spoilsport for Haaland or will Perez succeed in bringing another world beater at the Santiago Bernabeau? May 2022 everyone, is when we'll know the answer.

Is Haaland headed to Madrid?

BAYERN MUNICH

Bayern Munich is by far the biggest club in Germany. The record Bundesliga champions have been a dominant force in both Germany and Europe as well. Looking at the current Bayern team, one might think, do they need Haaland? They already have Robert Lewandowski, who is probably the best player in the world right now. Then why go for Haaland? Well its quite simple, Bayern are always noted for their future proof approach. Never will you see them approach any 33 year old player even if he is a superstar. Their knack towards signing young players from the Bundesliga itself may have turned the league into a one team league, but hey, they are not complaining! And Haaland can be the next domestic player to switch clubs for Bayern from his current club Borussia Dortmund. This is a road that has been taken quite a few times in the past (think Mario Goetze and Mats Hummels) but very rarely has it been a long term success. The cost of buying Haaland, close to a whopping 150 million pounds including agent fees is something Bayern don't want to spend at the moment.

Will Haaland be Lewandowski's successor?

BARCELONA

Barcelona? But how? Aren't they bankrupt?

Yes these are the same questions I had when I heard Barca are interested in bringing Haaland to the Camp Nou. They are in desperate need of a world class player after the departure Leo Messi in the summer. But can Barca really buy him, or their president Joan Laporta has been bluffing while talking about their potential interest in bringing Haaland to Barcelona?

Can Barca afford Haaland?

Well you see, the answer is not that simple. Barca indeed are in debt, but can make the deal go through if the player and his agent are willing. The agent in this case, Mr. Mino Raiola has been spotted having meeting with Laporta discussing about the potential transfer of many of his clients....including Haaland. So, are we really gonna see an el Classico in the transfer market in the summer of 2022? No one knows. What we know is, for the neutral, very exciting times are yet to come.

Can Laporta bring Haaland to Barcelona?

PARIS SAINT GERMAIN

Paris Saint Germain is one of the richest clubs in the world. Serial winners domestically in France, they have long dreamt of bringing the Champions League to the Parc des Princes. They came agonizingly close in 2020, but fell short to Bayern Munich.

PSG lost the Champions League narrowly in 2020

In the hope of having another shot at their long coveted dream, PSG have roped in world class players in the form of Leo Messi, Sergio Ramos and Gianluigi Donnarumma. The dream front three of Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe is good enough to terrorize any defense on its day. But with Mbappe's move to Real Madrid closer than ever, PSG might be forced to jump into this transfer war for Erling Haaland.

PSG signed Leo Messi in 2021

Haaland will be the perfect replacement for Mbappe; strong, fast and an eye for goal. But getting him won't be easy. PSG might have the money, but do they have the pull strong enough to bring a rising star like Haaland to a seemingly less competitive league like the Ligue1? Only time will tell.

MANCHESTER CITY

Any team that Haaland chooses, he will want to win trophies. So far he has won the DFB Pokal at Dortmund along with the domestic titles he won at Red Bull Salzburg. And what better team to be a part of than Manchester City if you want to win trophies? Pep Guardiola has revolutionized this Manchester City team, with them playing probably the best football at club level in the entire world. Their style of play is beautiful yet dangerously effective, and it might suite Haaland perfectly.

Man City have been rampant in the Premier League

City were agonizingly close to agreeing a deal for Spurs striker Harry Kane in the summer of 2021. The deal fell through as Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said no to a 150 million euros bid! So will City rekindle their interest once again in Kane? Or will they pay the 75 million release clause for Haaland? The second option is certainly more appetizing.

Harry Kane was very close to signing for City

Haaland is young, only 21 as of now, and will improve by leaps and bounds under a manager like Pep. Granted that he has no experience of playing in England, but him being physically strong will help him adjust to the hard vigor of the English game. Manchester City are strong enough without a natural striker as of now, with Haaland, they just might become unstoppable.

MANCHESTER UNITED

Manchester United? But how? Is this guy even serious?

Well, calm down, I know what you are thinking. How come Manchester United be in this race? After all the club is a mess, or as fans say, "Ruined from top to bottom". They need reinforcements probably in every department. They are struggling to land Denis Zakaria from Gladbach. So how come are they on this list?

Denis Zakaria is a Manchester United target

Well first of all, Manchester United is rich. They are historically as well as economically rich like the best of the best. They have got a huge world wide fanbase, and under Ole they almost signed Haaland from his then club Red Bull Salzburg. So what has changed now? Well the club has appointed German coach Ralf Rangnick as the interim manager till the end of the season, and after that two years in a consultancy role. Rangnick, if you recall, was the manager of RB Leipzig. The Red Bull teams are very strongly connected and hence Rangnick has a good relationship with Haaland. Will that play a part in his supposed transfer?

Man Utd interim manager Ralf Rangnick

The transfer won't be easy. Haaland wants a big contract, but he also wants to win trophies, and sadly enough, this United team is a mess. Along with Haaland United will need to sort out a number of on field as well as off the field issues if they are to win trophies again. But its easier said than done. And so is signing Erling Haaland.

Any club will be lucky to get Haaland

well, with the FIFA World Cup 2022 coming up in Qatar later this year, all Haaland wants is to play. Norway might not make it to the World Cup but he can be a crucial player for them in the years to come. And for that he needs to play football. According to sources, nothing has been decided as of yet. Dortmund are pressurizing him to make a decision, which on their part is quite understandable. Borussia Dortmund want to keep Haaland for atleast one more season before letting him go, while incase he leaves the club has identified 19 year old Karim Adeyemi from Red Bull Salzburg as his replacement. With the monetary gains both Haaland, his agent and Dortmund seem to make from this move, it will be very interesting to see which club he chooses. A good club, a good contract, a good coach and ample playing time....will Haaland make the perfect move? Or will he stay? Time will tell. Whatever happens, the 21 year old will NOT leave in January, confirmed.

THE SHIFT IN POWER IN EUROPEAN FOOTBALL : A FAN'S VIEWS

Football, the sport we love, the players we adore. Football gives us strength, courage, hope, a plethora of emotions like anger, happiness, sadness all within a span of 90 minutes. Football, as we know should always be for the fans. Fans or as I like to call them, the supporters should be the heartbeat of our wonderful sport. But lately, in the last decade or so there has been a shift in power in the footballing landscape in Europe, the hotbed of football. Its not a surprise that whatever happens in the European football scene is likely to influence the world football in some way or the other. Amid a raging pandemic and the rise of economic power houses entering this domain of the beautiful game, here are my views on the shift in power that has been so apparent in the last few years ; 1. The Economic Condition of the Players Football is for the players who play it, there's no two ways about it. For a footballer, its his job. They are lucky enough to turn their passion into their ...

THE GLADIATORS BEATEN AT THE COLOSSEUM

Real Madrid were shockingly defeated by Getafe away from home in their first league match of 2022. The goal, coming off an error by Eder Militao was enough to give three points to a Getafe side which Madrid were expected to beat. Madrid never looked the same after conceding the goal, and were nervy before a late final push to find the equalizer. The gaffer Carlo Ancelotti rightly pointed out that the players were still in " christmas mode" as Madrid looked far from their usual best. Here's me looking into the positives and negatives of our game vs Getafe; The Starting Eleven With leaks coming in from almost every possible source that Eden Hazard will start the game, it was widely expected that the Belgian will start upfront along with Benzema and Asensio. Marco Asensio, a player who starts on the right wing but likes to drop down in the midfield could have made the formation a bit for dynamic, changing from the usual 4-3-3 to a 4-4-2 at times with Hazard and Benzema upf...

KYLIAN MBAPPE

Dear Kylian Mbappe,  Hello Kylian, how you doing? I hope you are pretty good, after all the fresh bag you just got must have made you feel like a God, innit? How is the smell of those crisp euros or dollars or whatever the f**k they paid you in....does it smell good? Fresh? Or does it smell of blood? Blood from the dream you just killed, blood from the soul you just sold. We, the faithful Madridistas, have encountered a lot of turmoil over the years, but yours truly stands out, for we loved you, we adored you, we wanted you to play for us at any cost.....we made extraordinary sacrifices for you, we had a DREAM for you, the one you just killed yourself. I remember seeing a picture of your younger self, in a room full of posters of my club, of my favorite player, of OUR favorite player....the one who meant the most to you, to me and to millions worldwide.... Cristiano Ronaldo. Wasn't he like a God for you? Your everything, according to your former teammates? Didn't you dream of...

Chelsea vs Aston Villa ( Date - 26/12/2021 )

Chelsea won 3-1 vs a Gerrard-less Aston Villa thanks to a Jorginho double on boxing day. As entertaining the match was, here are my thoughts on both team's performance:- CHELSEA ●  Chelsea started with a 3-4-3 and looked threatening from the onset. The wing backs, especially Alonso kept running up and down the flanks providing the width. The 3 man defense with Silva in the middle played wide but were quick to squeeze in the spaces to block the shots from the likes of Ings and Watkins. ● The midfield 3 in Chelsea, especially Kante impressed me a lot. His ball carrying prowess is criminally underrated. Whenever the wing backs put in the crosses,3 men were already waiting in the box with Kante running in for the rebound from outside. His long range shooting is very good and Tuchel looked to capitalize that. ●Jorginho was essential, not only from the spot, but his ability to break plays and spread the ball outwards is so good. Chelsea had more passes in the opposition half, more touches and...

THE PLAYER : FOR CLUB OR COUNTRY? AFCON SPECIAL

Football, the beautiful game we all love and enjoy, should ultimately be for the players. Its their job after all, to honor their contracts and be professional under every instance, no matter how challenging the situation is. The players who are European and American, including both the North and South, are often helped a great deal by their federations as well the respect they receive from the fans and society. A Brazilian or a Spanish player has a different aura about him in any league he plays . The continental showpieces of Europe and South America, the Euros and the Copa America respectively, are watched admired by people worldwide. This respect and admiration, however drains down the gutter when it comes to the African and Asian tournaments, or the players in that sense.  An African or Asian player will have to work a lot harder in order to make the name an European does. But when the disrespect towards a player, community or even a country is aimed at a continental sh...
